Regan Grace: Code switcher suffers fresh injury blow

Regan Grace has suffered another setback in his quest to make a mark in rugby union.

The 29-year-old joined English Prem side Sale Sharks on a short-term deal in November 2025 that is due to expire in February 2026.

However, as that contract draws to a close, Grace has told his social media followers that he has sustained a fresh Achilles injury, this time “on the opposite side”. He said he will undergo surgery.

Grace began his professional career in the 13-a-side code with Super League side St Helens, scoring almost 100 tries and winning three Grand Finals and a Challenge Cup before switching to union in 2022.

His career has been hugely interrupted by injuries since then, leaving him unable to make an impact during spells at Racing 92, Bath and Cardiff, though he did play one game for Wales in an uncapped match against Queensland Reds during the 2024 summer tour of Australia.

After his latest setback Grace despondently posted: “This is a tough one to process.

“I’m still finding my feet mentally and figuring out what the next chapter looks like.

“I love rugby, I’d have walked away a long time ago if I didn’t, but I know the journey ahead won’t be easy.”
