How far will you go for more Moana? If the distance of a streaming app appeals more than a theater, we now know when the sequel to the 2016 animated movie debuts on Disney Plus.
Originally planned as a TV series, Moana 2 follows its Polynesian heroine on a new adventure three years after the first film. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprise their voice roles as the titular chief’s daughter and the demigod Maui, who reunite after Moana gets “an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors,” according to a synopsis from Disney.
Moana 2 premiered in theaters in November and has one midcredits scene. Separately, a live-action remake of the first film, starring Johnson and newcomer Catherine Laga’aia, has a 2026 release date. To meet Moana’s younger sister, Simea, and enjoy another family-friendly excursion, here are details on Moana 2’s Disney Plus drop.

When to watch Moana 2 on Disney Plus
Viewers in the US can watch the animated movie as early as 12:01 a.m. PT on Wednesday, March 12, according to Disney.
If you’re new to the streaming service, you can watch Moana 2 with the ad-supported Disney Plus Basic plan, which runs $10 a month. To remove most ads from your streaming experience and download titles for offline viewing, you can swing for Disney Plus Premium, which costs $16 a month or $160 a year.
While you can sign up for Disney Plus as a standalone service, you can also opt for a bundle of a.) Disney Plus and Hulu, b.) Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus or c.) Disney Plus, Hulu and Max. The option with Max costs $17 or $30, depending on if you want to stream with ads. Disney’s site has more details.
