Emma Finucane eager for Track World Championships challenge

Triple Olympic medallist Emma Finucane will race at the Track World Championships in Ballerup, near Copenhagen in Denmark, on 16-20 October.

The 21-year-old Welsh rider, appearing at her maiden Olympics, took team sprint gold and bronzes in the keirin and individual sprint for Team GB at Paris 2024 and will now turn her attention to the Worlds.

“I’ve got the World Championships in about seven weeks’ time in Copenhagen and then Champions League at the end of the year,” she confirmed to BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I’ve got a few more races coming up but I’m going to take my time and enjoy them, enjoy being in the moment and definitely take the opportunities to come.

“I’m just enjoying riding my bike.”

Finucane had announced herself on the global stage in 2023 when she claimed the sprint rainbow jersey at the World Championships in Glasgow – the first British rider to do so since Becky James 10 years earlier.

She will now aim to make a bigger mark at this year’s edition in Denmark.
