Gunter’s side had been beaten 7-0 by Spain before a 4-0 reverse to Germany in the opening games of the eight-team tournament being held in north Wales.
Wales’ hopes of progressing in the competition were already over prior to the final game against Denmark, but a Fifa Under-20 World Cup play-off spot was at stake.
“I know everybody associated with the tournament were all really disappointed because we wanted to do more,” Gunter told BBC Sport Wales.
“I think for the players, in the longer piece it’ll be a really good thing because of the experiences that they’ve had.
“But in the short term, it’s a real eye-opener of the levels that are there and exist in international football.
“For them, the bigger thing for them is that these boys want to go on and represent their country in senior football.
“That’s what you’re coming up against, but they’re naturally disappointed.”
