Bronze Age gold jewellery and other items have been stolen from one of Wales’ national museums, police have said.
Officers were called at about 00:30 BST on Monday to a report of burglary of the main building at St Fagans National Museum of History in Cardiff.
Det Insp Bob Chambers, from South Wales Police, said the force believed two suspects forced entry and several items were stolen from a display case.
Museum Wales said it was “saddened” by the “targeted attack”.
Det Insp Chambers urged that any information “no matter how small, maybe relevant to the investigation”.
Founded in 1948, St Fagans is one of Wales’ most popular heritage attractions.
It was redeveloped in 2018 with three new galleries with social history and archaeology collections at the museum.
The Bronze Age ran from about 2,300 BC to 800 BC.
