Elinor Barker: Welsh Olympic medal record ‘really special’ for cyclist

Track cyclist Elinor Barker is surprised and delighted after becoming the first Welsh woman to win four Olympic medals.

The 29-year-old won silver in the madison alongside Neah Evans for Team GB in Paris, adding to team pursuit gold (Rio 2016), silver (Tokyo 2021) and bronze (in Paris 2024).

So Barker has a gold, two silvers and a bronze, while Wales’ most successful female Olympian in terms of golds is sailor Hannah Mills, who has two golds and a silver.

Paulo Radmilovic is the most successful Welsh Olympian, with four golds in swimming and water polo between 1908 and 1920.
