‘Search your conscience’ plea over 2004 stabbing

Detectives are asking people to “search their consciences” and come forward with information more than two decades after a man was stabbed to death at a birthday party in Liverpool.

Curtis Kinsella, 21, died after being stabbed in the back in Aigburth while celebrating his sister’s 13th birthday on 6 September 2004.

Merseyside Police have made several arrests in relation to the attack over the last 21 years but no-one has ever been charged with Mr Kinsella’s murder.

His mum Michaela said her family would “never get over losing Curtis” and “never understand why he was attacked”.

Her son’s baby daughter, who was born three months after his death, had “grown up without knowing her dad”, she said.

She added: “It is now 21 years since we lost Curtis and not a day goes by when we [don’t] think of him.

“As a family we will never get over losing Curtis, and we will never understand why he was attacked.

“We just want justice and to find those responsible for his murder.”

She said her son was attacked on Alwyn Street, where he grew up, with more than 300 people coming to his funeral at the local St Michael’s of the Hamlet church.

“His sister Alicia was celebrating her 13th birthday when he was attacked, and has grown up without him being there for her,” Ms Kinsella said.

“She now has her own family and they will never get the chance to meet him.”

Merseyside Police said it was “never too late” to contact the force with information that could help them solve the case.

“We believe someone, somewhere knows what and who are responsible for his murder,” a force spokesperson said.

“I hope that the passing of time will enable people to search their consciences and find the courage to come forward.”
