World Taekwondo Championships: Lauren Williams earns bronze for GB in China

Wales’ Lauren Williams has won bronze for Great Britain at the World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China.

Williams won her first three bouts 2-0 before being defeated in two straight rounds by Turkey’s Nafia Kuş, who went on to win gold in the final.

Williams, 26, won consecutive gold medals in the Junior World Championships in 2014 and 2016, but this was the first time she had won a medal at a senior World Championships.

She swapped from welterweight to heavyweight after the Paris 2024 cycle, a change she said made her happier.

It is the second medal won by Great Britain at the championships, with Caden Cunningham securing bronze in the men’s heavyweight event on Friday.
