The 57-year-old was pronounced dead at the Pitreavie Packaging facility in Cumbernauld

A worker has died after being seriously injured in an incident at a packaging factory in Cumbernauld.

Emergency crews were called to the Pitreavie Packaging facility on Frayshill Road at about 00:20 on Tuesday.

A 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said officers had launched an investigation into the circumstances alongside colleagues from the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokesperson for Pitreavie said the company had launched its own internal investigation.

They added: “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of our colleague at this very sad time.”
