Woman stabbed in head with screwdriver during clashes

A woman was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver during “terrifying” disorder in Dungannon on Sunday afternoon.

The woman was one of four people taken to hospital after police said they received reports of a number of people fighting with weapons in the Oaks Avenue area at about 14:25 BST.

“Thankfully, at this stage it doesn’t appear that any of the injuries are life-threatening,” Det Insp Ryan said.

Five people were arrested following the clashes.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, while a 33-year-old woman was arrested for grievous bodily harm.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, as well over a number of driving offences.

Two other people were arrested at the scene over offences not related to the incident.

Police officers remain at the scene on Monday morning and inquiries are ongoing.

“Local residents will continue to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days,” Det Insp Ryan said.

“This was a terrifying experience for neighbours and those who witnessed these events, and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact us.”
