Members of the Venezuelan diaspora gathered in Doral in Florida to collect aid to be sent to the country after it was hit by two earthquakes on Wednesday.

Simón Peña donated drinking water as he continues to wait for news of missing loved ones.

“I want to help as much as possible and do whatever little we can from here,” he told BBC Mundo.

More than 40% of Doral’s residents are of Venezuelan origin, the largest concentration in the US. Many fled economic troubles and insecurity in their country after Maduro took office in 2013, while others fled that of his predecessor, Hugo Chavez.
