Warning of further Glasgow train disruption despite repair

Engineers have worked overnight to fix damaged electric rail lines affecting one of Scotland’s busiest train stations, though some travel disruption is expected to continue.

Overhead wires in Newton and Rutherglen were badly damaged, affecting services running through Glasgow Central and Motherwell.

Avanti West Coast trains from Glasgow to London and TransPennine Express services between Glasgow and Manchester or Liverpool have also been disrupted.

Network Rail Scotland said the West Coast Mainline reopened at 09:00, but that it would “take time” to restore services back to normal.
