Two drivers were left seriously injured after their cars collided in Aberdeenshire.

The women aged 42 and 53 were taken to hospital following the incident, which happened on the B979 between Blackburn and Hatton of Fintray at about 14:40 on Wednesday.

The road was closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene of the crash that involved a black Vauxhall Corsa and a black Vauxhall Mokka.

Police have appealed for witnesses, including anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.

The women were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Sgt Peter Henderson said: “I am appealing to any road users who were in the area around the time of the incident to contact us.

“Perhaps you passed or saw one of the vehicles prior to the collision.

“If you have dashcam, it may have captured images which could assist with our ongoing inquiries.”
