St George flat fire tackled by multiple Bristol fire crews

The blaze broke out overnight in the St George area of Bristol

Residents of a city building had to be taken to hospital after being rescued when a fire broke out.

Avon Fire and Rescue said it sent multiple crews to the property Bell Hill Road in the St George area of Bristol after the emergency services were called at about 22:30 BST on Monday.

Crews from Bedminster, Kingswood, Hicks Gate, Temple and Bath extinguished the fire and some of the people inside the building were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The fire service said the cause of the fire is not known yet and an investigation will take place on Tuesday.

Witnesses said they heard residents of the flats screaming for help before they were rescued by firefighters.
