Premier League: Which team has the most red cards in a season?

Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers hold the joint-record for the most red cards in a Premier League season with nine.

The Black Cats became the first team to pick up nine red cards in a season during the 2009-10 campaign before QPR matched their feat two years later.

Chelsea have already received four red cards from 13 games this campaign, with Robert Sanchez, Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah and Moises Caicedo all seeing red.

That works out at an average of 0.31 per game and if that run continues it would see Chelsea set an unfortunate top-flight record.

Head coach Enzo Maresca was also sent off late on during Chelsea’s win over Liverpool in October.

The Blues are one red away from equalling their record in a Premier League campaign, which happened in 2005-06, 2007-08, 2009-10 and 2015-16. Two of those campaigns saw the Blues win the title.
