Scarlets have signed former fly-half Billy McBryde on loan from Super Rygbi Cymru side RGC.

The 29-year-old son of former Wales forwards coach Robin is set to be involved in Scarlets’ United Rugby Championship (URC) game against Benetton in Treviso on Friday, 30 January, while Sam Costelow and Joe Hawkins are preparing for the Six Nations with Wales.

Scarlets are without academy fly-half Elis Price, who has a foot injury, while Wales Under-20s squad member Carwyn Leggatt-Jones, 18, is their only other option at 10.

The Llanelli-based team’s next game after the trip to Italy is at Edinburgh on Friday, 27 February.

McBryde, himself a former Wales Under-20s cap, made six Scarlets appearances in the since-defunct Anglo-Welsh Cup between 2016 and 2017.
