Plans for a new brewery, taproom and museum for Wrexham Lager have been unveiled.

Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became co-owners of the lager brewery a year ago and there have been discussions about its expansion.

The latest proposals, put forward by Wrexham Council, are part of the wider Wrexham Gateway regeneration masterplan for the city centre.

The brewery would be close to Wrexham FC, co-owned by Reynolds and McElhenney since 2020.

Planning documents show the proposed site would also include a restaurant and new public spaces.

Reynolds and McElhenney have helped transform the club as well as boosting tourism, with more than two million people visiting the city last year.

The Wrexham Gateway regeneration proposals were first put forward in 2019.

It emerged earlier this year that Wrexham Lager was in discussions to move its brewery into the former Jewson warehouse, as part of the developments.

The warehouse is on the site of the former Cambrian Ironworks, which hosted an ammunitions factory in World War One and later produced motorcycles.

The council have submitted a planning application for the site .

According to the application, the venue would “provide an attractive welcome to the city of Wrexham” and create a destination for fans and visitors.

Planning documents describe the scheme as part of a wider regeneration effort for the area surrounding the football ground.

Reynolds and McElhenney became joint owners of Wrexham Lager with the Roberts family in 2024. It is one of the oldest lager brands in the world.

The brewery’s history stretches back to 1882 and its beer was famously served on board the Titanic.

After becoming joint owners, the pair said the aim was to modernise the business while celebrating its heritage.
