Simon Johnson, the chair of the Rugby Football League, is to stand down after nearly six years in the role.
Johnson first joined the RFL board in July 2014, going on to become interim chair in July 2019 and then chair a few months later.
His departure follows the resignation of another member of the RFL board in senior non-executive director Sandy Lindsay.
During his time as chair, Johnson oversaw the staging of the World Cup in 2022 with the men’s, women’s and wheelchair events being held at the same time in England.
He said, external: “It has always been my aim to lead an inclusive sport with integrity, honesty, authenticity and openness.
“My interest has always been to put rugby league first.”
The process of finding his replacement will begin following a formal review.
