The trip was the idea of health care assistant Chelsie Streete from the Cedars Nursing Home in Albrighton.

She described Ms Dearne, who is originally from Wolverhampton, as “the nan people wish for”.

She said Ms Dearne had mentioned in passing the she had a Rolls-Royce at her wedding and decided to ask people on Facebook if they could help out.

She got more than 100 responses and said: “Her Christmas wish has come true and its been beautiful.”

They used the car to make a trip into the village for a cup of tea and Richard Johnson, the man who donated the car for the day for free, said he wanted to show there was “still a bit of kindness left in the world”.

“I’d like to think somebody would do it for my grandparents,” he said.
