A man has died in a crash between a van and a recovery lorry on the A9.

Police Scotland said the collision happened on the northbound carriageway near Dalnaspidal, about 2.5 miles (4km) south of Dalwhinnie, at about 11:50 on Friday.

The 20-year-old, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was a passenger in a white Mercedes Sprinter.

The driver of the van, a 52-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries.

Police Scotland said the road was closed for about nine hours while an initial investigation took place.

Officers have appealed for information and asked any drivers in the area at the time with dashcam footage to contact them.

Sgt Mike Guild said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died.”
