Papa Johns store closures mapped as pizza takeaway plans to axe 43 sites

Papa Johns has confirmed it will be closing 43 sites, which are all “underperforming”, within the next two months.

Following a consultation process, the branches will close in mid-May. It’s not yet known how many jobs will be hit by the closures.

Some of the branches closing include sites in Greater London, Essex, North Yorkshire and East Sussex.

Managing Director at Papa Johns UK, Chris Phylactou, said impacted team members are the company’s “priority” and anyone affected by the closures will be “fully supported throughout this process”.

He continued: “Our goal is to work with impacted team members and attempt to find redeployment opportunities where available.

“We understand the impact this will have on our team members and are committed to supporting them during this time.”

Mr Phylactou also said closing “underperforming locations” will allow the company to invest back into the right locations and partners for “long-term growth”.

He added: “We are focused on driving shared profitable growth across our UK restaurants, by continuing to make improvements to our business to ensure that we are well-positioned for the future.

“We have been encouraged by the results so far from these initiatives.”

Papa Johns also said it plans to increase investment in research and technology, and will look at the development of new types of sites beyond traditional restaurants, such as expanding into holiday parks, and is set to “announce other large retail partners in the coming months”.

The latest wave of closures has infuriated some Britons with many taking to the social media site, X, to share their views.

One social media user said: “Ohh disappointing I like Papa Johns but tbh I eat much less these days and hardly ever takeaway.” Another user said they are “devastated for the work staff”.
