NS&I responds as man asks to access mum’s Premium Bonds after she died 21 years ago | Personal Finance | Finance

NS&I has provided guidance to a man who wanted to check some Premium Bonds that previously belonged to his mother.

The man contacted the savings provider over X, formerly Twitter, as he had come across the Bonds that belonged to his mum, who died 21 years ago.

He asked: “How do I go about checking if they’re still valid?”

NS&I directed him to fill in a bereavement claim form on the group’s website to deal with the issue.

The group said: “Once processed, our team will write to you to confirm further information.”

To fill in the form, a person will need to provide details about the person who has died, including their National Insurance number, address, and any relevant details about their spouse and partner.

They will also need to provide details of the executor if there is a will.

In a separate case, a Premium Bonds customer recently contacted NS&I as they were struggling to access their Bonds.

They reached out after they requested a replacement password from NS&I which had still not arrived after several days.

They claimed they needed access to their account quickly and had been “waiting days” for the document.

NS&I responded to say that the document should arrive within three to five working days for UK residents.

The savings provider later encouraged them to call the group’s helpline for an update on their replacement password.

They also sent them a link to this webpage to cash in their Bonds.

Premium Bonds savers are entered into a monthly prize draw instead of getting an interest rate on their savings.
