The Exiles have confirmed Mark Smith will continue as assistant manager.

A Newport statement continued: “Everyone at the club is united behind Chris, Mark, and the squad, and we look forward to getting behind the team for the start of pre-season.

“Newport County asks supporters and the media for their patience during this period.

“Chris has our full confidence as he leads the team, and in due course we will carry out a considered process to determine the right long-term appointment for the club’s ethos and ambitions.”

Newport players are due to return for pre-season training on Monday, 29 July before kicking off the 2026-27 season with a Carabao Cup game at AFC Wimbledon on the weekend of 8 August, followed by a League Two opener against Rochdale a week later.

County were rock bottom of League Two when they sacked Dave Hughes in November last year.

Fuchs – who won the 2015-16 Premier League with Leicester City – guided the club to safety on the final day of the season but left the club just shy of two months after the finish of the 2025-26 campaign.
