A 28-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after a suspected hit and run in Dromore last night.

The pedestrian was struck by a black Toyota Yaris in the Market Square area of the County Down town and the car then made off from the scene.

A short time later a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including including dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said he remains in custody.

Inspector Woods said that police were alerted to the incident at around 01:50 BST: “Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. A 28 year-old man was subsequently taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.”

“We’re appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened or anyone who may have mobile or dash-cam footage of what happened that we could review to make contact with police,” he added.
