Newly widowed man devastated after car set on fire in Dinas Powys

South Wales Police said it was also investigating arson attacks on three cars on 27 December in Llanharan and Rhydyfelin, Rhondda Cynon Taf. The force said three cars were deliberately set alight between 20:30 and 21:30.

One of the vehicles was in Park View, Llanharan, outside a family home where a young child was present.

A short time later two vehicles were set alight in Oak Street, Rhydyfelin, where the suspects were captured on CCTV.

Police have appealed for information on the attacks.

The owner of one of the vehicles, who did not want to be named, said she was alerted to the incident by a neighbour, but it was too late.

“They knocked on the door and said it was on fire,” she said.

“When I got there the fire brigade were already putting it out.

“I was gutted. I haven’t got that kind of money, because I work as a carer. I used it three times a week [for work].”

Another neighbour said she heard a “banging” noise but initially thought it was fireworks.

She added: “It’s awful. Why would you go and burn somebody’s car?”
