National Eisteddfod: ‘Calon Lân’ fills Pontypridd station as train passengers sing

Passengers waiting for a train in Pontypridd burst into a roaring rendition of “Calon Lân” after the opening day of the National Eisteddfod.

Held in town this week, the event is expected to attract 160,000 visitors.

A video shot by Iestyn Williams and Mari Williams captures passengers singing the classic Welsh hymn, meaning “pure heart”, loudly and proudly on the platform and later on the train.

“Eisteddfodwyr” – or Eisteddfod attendees – returning from the festivities at Ynysangharad Park were in high spirits, after an evening of performances by Dafydd Iwan and the rock opera “Nia Ben Aur”.
