New Zealand and Harlequins forward Layla Sae has been ruled out of the rest of the Premiership Women’s Rugby season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Sae joined Quins last month as injury cover on a deal until the end of March.

The 25-year-old, who has 19 caps for the Black Ferns, made her only appearance for Quins in the defeat to Exeter on 16 November.

Sae is one of a number of players ruled out for the London club ahead of their next PWR match away at Leicester on Saturday.

Scotland second-row Sarah Bonar and South Africa lock Dannelle Lochner are both expected to miss three to four months with a back injury and shoulder injury respectively, while Wales co-captain Alex Callender is out for six to eight weeks with a foot injury.

Callender is yet to play this season after undergoing surgery during the World Cup this summer.

Harlequins are currently seventh in the PWR table, with one win in their four matches so far.

Props Laura Delgado and Hannah Duffy, back row Aoife Wafer and centre Izzy Mayhew are also all currently on the sidelines for a number of weeks.
