Efan described meeting Fatboy Slim as “a dream come true”

A budding 11-year-old DJ said it was “a dream come true” to meet his hero Fatboy Slim after playing a set at a festival.

Efan Williams – known on stage as Efan Electro – shared a high-five, a hug and a chat with the chart-topping star backstage at Kendal Calling in the Lake District this summer.

The moment was caught on camera and is set to feature in an edition of S4C show Stwnsh Sadwrn later this month.

Efan, from Llanllechid, near Bethesda in Gwynedd, said performing at the 45,000 capacity festival was his “biggest gig so far” and described Fatboy Slim as the reason he started DJing.

“I love DJing and producing music,” added the former Ysgol Llanllechid pupil, whose fledgling career has been charted for much of this year by a TV film crew.

“I play house, techno, hip hop and electronic dance music in general.

“But my favourite DJ is Fat Boy Slim – he’s the reason why I do this.”

Efan’s father, Rob, described his son getting to meet his idol – whose real name is Norman Cook – as “a really special moment”.

“He’s heavily inspired by legends like him, and you can really hear that influence in the sets he plays.”

Mr Williams added that Efan got his first DJ decks as a Christmas present when he was eight, the family having held lots of lockdown discos at home during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“He’s moved on to some very high end equipment since then and has really mastered it.

Mr Williams said Kendal Calling had been “a bonkers day” for Efan and “something he’ll never forget”.

DJ Fatboy Slim celebrated 40 years in music this year

Like Efan, Cook also began DJing early, aged just 15.

He shot to fame in the ’80s with bands like The Housemartins and Beats International, before carving out a successful solo career.

With millions of followers on social media, he has gone on to win a Grammy Award, nine MTV Video Music Awards, two Brit Awards and an Ivor Novello Award.

In 2023, he was awarded the Guinness World Record for the most UK number-one singles by one musician as a member of different acts.

Stwnsh Sadwrn is on S4C at 9.40am on 20 December and will be available on BBC iPlayer.
