Kayaker’s body recovered from River Tees in Barnard Castle

The body of a kayaker has been recovered from a river.

Durham Police said emergency services were called to the River Tees at Barnard Castle, County Durham, just before 14:00 GMT to reports of a woman getting into difficulty in the water.

The 20-year-old’s body was recovered about two hours later after a search involving coastguards and Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team.

A police spokesperson said the woman’s family had been informed.
