Juddmonte International Stakes: Ryan Moore wins race at York for third time on City Of Troy

Ryan Moore won the Juddmonte International Stakes for the third time as City Of Troy clinched a dazzling victory at York.

The 5-4 favourite, trained by Aidan O’Brien, pulled clear of the field in the 1m 2f 56y grade one race to beat Calandagan by a length while Ghostwriter finished third in the Ebor Festival’s opening-day highlight.

Moore’s victory followed up his wins in 2006 aboard Notnowcato and in 2019 on Japan.

City Of Troy, the son of Justify, has consigned to the past a disappointing run in the 2,000 Guineas back in May, with this victory coming on top of wins in the Derby at Epsom and the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.

“He’s an exceptional two-year-old and had one bad day,” Moore told ITV Racing.

“We let the horse did the talking and he’s gone and done it again. He got away well and I didn’t want to take him back. I just let him use his rhythm and he travelled beautifully the whole way.”

City Of Troy jumped out alertly in the hands of Moore and showed the stamina to win from the front.

The Aga Khan’s Calandagan burst from the pack to make a challenge but the Royal Ascot winner was unable to reel in the Ballydoyle stable’s star performer as he broke the course record.
