Irish Premiership: David Healy signs extension to remain as Linfield despite Raith Rovers approach

Linfield’s David Healy has signed a contract extension to remain manager at Windsor Park until 2026.

Blues boss since 2015, the 45-year-old’s deal was due to expire at the end of this season and he had been subject of an approach from Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers last week.

The Kirkcaldy club have been on the hunt for a new manager since the sacking of Ian Murray after their first game of the season.

That prompted speculation that Saturday’s 5-1 win over Loughgall could be former Northern Ireland striker Healy’s last game in charge at Windsor.

However, following that victory, Blues chairman Roy McGivern said the club “remain determined” to keep Healy and he has now turned down the chance to take up the reins at Stark’s Park.

“I am pleased that the club was prepared to extend my contact at Linfield and I am thankful to the board for the support they have given me,” Healy said.

“Everyone knows that I am passionate about this club and I am totally focused on achieving further success during the remainder of my contract.

“We have made a solid start to the season and I am delighted to continue working with this squad of players who share my determination to bring further success to the club.”

At Linfield, Healy has won has won the league title five times, two Irish Cups, three League Cups and one County Antrim Shield.

His side are top of the Irish Premiership with four wins from four games, the only side in this season’s competition still boasting a 100% record, although back-to-back champions Larne have yet to play a domestic game because of their European involvement.
