In pictures: Scotland’s fiery sunsets and UFO-like clouds

BBC Weather Watchers have been treated this week to red skies at night in the mornings – and unusual cloud formations.

Lenticular clouds could be seen widely across Scotland over the past few days.

The clouds form when the air is stable and winds blow across hills and mountains from a similar direction at different heights through the troposphere, according to the Met Office.

They often resemble UFO flying saucers.
