Gardaí (Irish police) have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a young boy whose remains were found in County Dublin in September.

The remains, found in Donabate, were later confirmed to be those of Daniel Aruebose.

It is believed he had been missing for a number of years, from when he was about three years old.

Friday would have been Daniel’s eighth birthday.

Gardaí said they continue to keep Daniel’s family informed of all developments in the ongoing investigation.

Concerns for Daniel’s whereabouts were raised in August by Tusla, the Irish state agency responsible for child welfare and protection.

Daniel lived in The Gallery Apartments in Donabate, where an examination was first carried out on Sunday 31 August.

An area of open ground in the village, which lies to the north of Dublin, was then searched.

DNA analysis later confirmed the remains to be Daniel’s.

Gardai have appealed to the public for information.

“Members of the public are urged not to assume that Gardaí already possess information they may hold, or that any detail is too small or insignificant,” the Garda spokesperson said.

“The investigation team will determine the relevance of any information provided.”

Gardai also appealed for members of the public to “verify” any information about the case “particularly speculation, rumours, or theories about what may have happened to Daniel”.
