Hereford baby memorial garden vandalism ‘incredibly upsetting’

A hospital garden created as a memorial to babies that have died has been vandalised.

Wye Valley NHS Trust Charity posted on Facebook to say the incident at Hereford County Hospital had happened overnight on Saturday into Sunday.

“This is a charitable project created with love, compassion and the hope of providing a peaceful place for families to remember their precious babies,” it said.

“It is incredibly upsetting to see a place that means so much to families treated with such disrespect.”

The hospital charity said the garden was there to offer comfort and a place to reflect, adding that the vandalism had been reported to the police.

It was created as a sanctuary for families affected by pregnancy and baby loss, and has been open to the public since it was unveiled in July 2025.

“The dedication and hard work that goes into creating and maintaining a space like this makes this act even more upsetting,” the charity added.

It said while there had been many offers of help, the clean up was completed over the weekend.

West Mercia Police confirmed they had received a report of vandalism at Hereford County Hospital, believed to have occurred sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

It was reported that damage was caused to a water feature and plants in a memorial garden on the hospital grounds, they said. Enquiries are ongoing.
