Grant Forrest looks for lift in Nexo Championship title defence

As Grant Forrest prepares to defend his Nexo Championship title, the Scot admits he would have like to have “kicked on a bit more” from his “massive” win last year.

The 33-year-old earned his second DP World Tour success at the Trump International Golf Links but has found the going hard since.

With just one top 10 finish in his 15 tournament outings this season, Forrest told BBC Scotland: “I think besides that week last year it wasn’t the best of seasons but it is really tough to win out here.

“You have got to take a lot from that and keep believing that the good weeks are good enough.

“Ideally, I would like to have kicked on a bit more but there is still a lot of golf left to play this season and it is a long journey this game.

“You have just got to stay patient and keep believing that the good weeks will show up and shrug the bad weeks off.”

Forrest is currently 241st in the world rankings and 94th in the Race to Dubai standings.

Reflecting on his 2025 victory in Aberdeenshire, he added: “It was massive. I hadn’t had the best of seasons up to this week last year.

“I had a really good Friday to put me in the mix and a strong Saturday. On paper, it probably looked comfortable in the end by four shots, with a six-shot lead going down the last, but it was anything but.

“I am looking forward to not only defending but just getting back to golf.

“I have had a nice break, five weeks since the Scottish Open, so really looking forward to getting going again.”
