Mumbles Pier said on Facebook: “Our site will remain closed today, this includes the Amusements, Big Wheel, cafe and Copperfish, please be patient with us at this time. More information will be released shortly.”
Chris Faulder, 61, from Gorseinon, Swansea, was out fishing when he saw fire engines travelling towards the pier at around 04:00.
“I didn’t realise at first, as the area is so dark,” he said.
“I could see the fire engines travelling closer, then there was a lot of smoke and a burning smell in the air.
“There was a small flame on the left side of the building, but mainly smoke covered the area.”
He added: “I’m glad that no one was hurt.”
In 2022, a nightclub at the base of Mumbles Pier was gutted by fire, though the pier itself was not damaged.
