Finally our forever home after 10 years on housing list

A young mother who recently faced eviction after years of living in temporary accommodation has finally secured a permanent council flat.

For almost a decade, Stacey and her six-year-old son Archie had been moved around several homeless flats by the City of Edinburgh Council.

The BBC has been following her journey through what campaigners in Scotland say is a housing emergency.

In a statement, councillor Jane Meagher said: “It can be very hard for people to find the right type of property for their needs, so I’d urge people who are in Stacey’s situation to not give up hope – to keep looking at all options and bidding for homes.

“We’ve declared a housing emergency in Edinburgh and we’re working on solutions with our partner landlords, with the third sector and house builders.”
