Drivers who U-turned to avoid A55 traffic face fines, police say

Drivers spotted U-turning to avoid a major delay on a road in north Wales can expect fines, police have said.

A fire near the Penmaenbach headland tunnel in Conwy county shut the A55 in both directions on on Friday morning, causing long tailbacks until the road reopened at about 13:00 GMT.

North Wales Police said further delays were caused by motorists turning their vehicles around and driving against the flow of traffic.

The force said those claiming to have been “following others” do not a valid excuse.
