Conwy councillors advised to refuse Llanfairfechan car park plans

Councillors are being advised to refuse their own council’s planning application for extra seafront parking spaces over concerns about flooding.

Conwy council applied for permission to create 17 new parking spaces at Llanfairfechan car park, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

Planning officers said the proposal fails to comply with measures designed to reduce flood risk and was deemed “unacceptable”.

The council’s planning committee will discuss the plans on 16 September.

In June 2025, LDRS reported on plans for improvement works, including improving the drainage, installing electric vehicle charging points and adding, what was then, 18 car park spaces.

But, at that time, those improvements were yet to be carried out because of negotiations with Natural Resources Wales.

Now, planning officers are advising that the committee refuse the application, saying in a report that the proposal was “unacceptable in terms of flood risk”.
