Rothesay County Championship, Division Two, Cheltenham College (day two)
Gloucestershire 150: Boorman 60; Allison 5-19, Waite 3-43, Swanepoel 2-42
Worcestershire 205-7: Edavalath 63, D’Oliveira 49*; Sai Kishore 3-56
Worcestershire (3 pts) lead Gloucestershire (2 pts) by 55 runs
Rahaan Edavalath proved an unlikely hero as Worcestershire assumed the upper hand on day two against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham.
An injury replacement for wicketkeeper-batsman Gareth Roderick, and making his first Championship appearance of the season, the inexperienced right hander took his chance.
He demonstrated a cool head to register a career-best 63 as Worcestershire mustered 205-7 in reply to Gloucestershire’s first-innings 150.
Edavalath staged a crucial stand of 79 with Pears captain Brett D’Oliveira, who was 49 not out when bad light brought a premature end with 18 overs remaining and Worcestershire 55 runs ahead.
Slow left-armer Sai Kishore claimed 3-56 for Gloucestershire on his debut, while Will Williams and Ed Middleton took two wickets apiece as Gloucestershire kept themselves in the hunt.
The home side under-achieved in their first innings, eventually being bowled out for 150 as Ben Allison added two more scalps to his first-day haul to finish with a career-best return of 5-19.
