The Feeling say Twelve Stops and Home was recorded in Horsham shed

The Feeling’s triple-platinum debut album was recorded in a shed in Horsham, according to frontman Dan Gillespie Sells.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sussex as the record marks its 20th anniversary, Gillespie Sells said it came from “a very different world” when music fans bought CDs and “nobody had an iPhone”.

The singer said much of Twelve Stops and Home was made at the Sussex home of brothers and bandmates Kevin and Ciaran Jeremiah.

The Feeling will perform the album in full when a 20th anniversary tour visits Eastbourne and Margate in November.

Gillespie Sells, the only member of the band not originally from Sussex, said he spent many of his teenage years in the county after meeting his future bandmates at the Brit School.

He said the group began spending time together in Ashdown Forest before starting to record music in Sussex.

Asked whether he had visited the studio again since making the album, he said: “It wasn’t a studio, it was a shed.”

“It was an outhouse. There were brick walls but it was essentially a shed,” he added.

Gillespie Sells said the recordings took place in the Horsham garden building owned by the Jeremiah brothers’ parents.

“We borrowed some microphones, Kevin had built a small computer and we recorded the first album like that, basically just hanging out together,” he said.
