Visitor centre at Clynelish Distillery could close, says Diageo

Drinks giant Diageo has proposed shutting the visitor centre at its Clynelish Distillery in Brora.

There are no details yet on potential job losses.

Diageo said it had invested more than £185m in its visitor centres across Scotland, but added that a review of its operations “regretfully” included plans to shut the Sutherland site.

A spokesperson said: “We are currently engaging with and supporting colleagues as part of this process. We can confirm that these proposals are unrelated to distillery operations where production will continue.”

Jamie Stone, Liberal Democrat MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, said Diageo’s announcement was “extremely disappointing”.

He said: “I find this announcement extremely disappointing. It wasn’t long ago that the visitor centre got refurbished and I know full well that every job counts in an area like East Sutherland.”

Stone said he was seeking a meeting with the company.
