County Antrim Shield final: Seaview success ‘would be incredible’ – Glentoran boss Devine

Glentoran boss Declan Devine says his side are hungry to bring success back to the club ahead of Tuesday night’s Co Antrim Shield final against holders Larne.

The match, which is live on the BBC iPlayer, is a repeat of last year’s decider when Larne prevailed 2-1 to enjoy a fourth straight triumph in the competition.

Glentoran are bidding to win silverware for the first time since securing the Irish Cup five years ago.

“It would be incredible [to win the Co Antrim Shield] and would be testimony to the players for the hard work they’ve been putting in,” said Devine.

“We’re really hungry to bring success back to Glentoran – we have to give everything of ourselves physically, technically and tactically on the night. It has the makings of a cracking game.”

The two sides met in the league on Saturday, but the game was abandoned early in the second half due to floodlight failure.

Devine knows it will be tough task to overcome the Premiership champions in the Seaview showdown.

“We’re going to bring a huge crowd here but we’re under no illusions – it’s going to extremely difficult because they’ve taken over the trophy for the last four seasons and we know we haven’t won a trophy in a long time.

“So it’s bringing that mentality, willingness and desire to get across the line that will really be important on Tuesday night.”
