Cornwall’s wellbeing walks praised for keeping people active

“I’ve also just had a knee replacement, so this is helping me along,” Toni added.

“I come out and walk, we have a chat and a cup of coffee, getting fresh air and being with human beings.”

Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England, recently recommended adults aim for about 150 minutes of moderate activity a week – and a brisk walk counts towards that amount.

Active Cornwall’s Rob Harrison said there were obviously physical benefits of getting out but stressed “the social element is massively important” too.

“You could come to walk on your own, but you go away with friends and have that network and community,” Harrison said.
