Cordon in place as gas leak near Exeter station made safe

Matt Herdman, from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We’ve got concerns that should that gas ignite it may cause an explosion within the property.

“At the moment the risk is really low, we are holding people outside of the cordon.

“We have gas monitoring equipment in place which is giving no indication that the gas is leaking outside the room.”

Train operator GWR said services between Exeter St David’s and Exmouth were expected to be cancelled or delayed until 20:45 GMT.

A 100m (330ft) cordon has been set up around the area.
