Community ‘united in grief’ after Oban lorry death

The family of a man who died after being struck by a lorry in Oban said the local community was “united in grief”.

Douglas Macarthur, 59, who was known as Doc, was hit by an HGV in Oban’s George Street area in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police Scotland said his body was found a short time later – at about 01:55 – on the A85 near Pennyfuir, about two miles from the collision.

The driver of the lorry was traced and inquiries are ongoing.

In a statement released by the force, Mr Macarthur’s family said they had been “positively touched by all the messages of condolences and personal tributes to their much-loved brother and uncle”.

It added: “Doc was obviously held in high regard throughout the local community and beyond, who are united in grief.”

Insp Roy McCarney appealed for information, external and added: “Inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
