The A96 was closed for more than five hours after the crash

A bus driver has been seriously injured after her vehicle struck part of a load shed by a lorry in the Highlands.

Cargo carried by the red DAF HGV fell onto the A96 near Tornagrain at about 21:30 on Friday before being hit by the bus.

The bus driver, a 56-year-old woman, was taken to hospital where she remains. The HGV failed to stop at the scene but has since been traced.

Police closed the road for about five and a half hours before it reopened at about 02:00 on Saturday and have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
