Boys, 13, arrested after Thurmaston Shopping Centre fire

Police have arrested three teenage boys following a fire at a shopping centre in Leicestershire.

The emergency services were sent to the Thurmaston Shopping Centre in Barkby Thorpe Lane just after 04:15 BST on Saturday.

More than 40 firefighters were involved in the operation at its height, and police confirmed no-one was injured. Part of the centre has since had to be demolished.

Leicestershire Police confirmed it had now arrested three 13-year-old boys on suspicion of arson following a review of CCTV footage. They remain in custody.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Greggs, cardfactory, Mountain Warehouse and Claire’s were demolished.

A fire service investigation into what caused the fire remains ongoing.
