Boy with special needs hit with hammer in Ely break-in

CCTV has captured the moment a gang shouting “police” bursts into a home in Cambridgeshire, shortly before attacking a teenager with special needs.

Bongani Ngozi, 23, was part of a group of six men who smashed through the glass door of a home on the outskirts of Ely, during the early hours of 6 November.

Soon after, a 14-year-old boy was struck over the head with the claw side of a hammer, and a man in his 40s was repeatedly hit with the same weapon while attempting to defend his family, police said. The men left empty-handed.

A key found at the scene was linked to Ngozi through DNA.

Ngozi, of no fixed address, was jailed for 15 years at Peterborough Crown Court after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated burglary.

During the same hearing, another man was jailed for a separate attack.
