This was the moment a 17-year-old boy was found with a knife in his waistband by police – and escaping before he could be arrested.

Officers confronted the teenager on Main Street, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, but another man intervened which gave the boy the opportunity to drop the blade and run off.

The footage from 13 October shows the second man then being tackled to the ground by an officer, and another grabbing the knife.

South Wales Police said the teenager was arrested a few days later and charged with possessing a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place. He received a nine-month referral order.

The second man was convicted of two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, and possessing a knife in a public place. He received a community order.
